As shepherds ourselves, raising a breed with extremely high mineral needs, in a minerally deficient area of the Midwest, the Mayo 5-1 bolus was a lifesaver. After extensive research, & our own on-farm control group experimentation, utilizing annual fixed tissue mineral analysis (liver testing) there was little doubt the crucial role multi-trace element boluses played in our long term success.
The downside was that shipping was high, the containers were in 100 & 250 bolus quantities, making it expensive for a small flock, & there was little education or support surrounding sheep boluses.
